Denver Radio Club Field Day 2008 is Over

This is a brief report, keep checking this page for a full report and photos of DRC Field Day 2008.

The Denver Radio Club (DRC) participated in the ARRL 2008 Field Day exercise June 28 and 29th 2008. Set up for Field Day began 27 June. The event was held at the Hudson repeater site located on County Road 45 north of County Road 4.

See the map to the 2008 Field Day site.

Part of the Field Day exercise (about one hour) was used to fulfill the DRC's annual commitment to cleanup the Hudson repeater site. Club members and others participated in bringing rakes, shovels, and heavy-duty gloves to remove the trash and tumbleweeds from the locale. After the cleanup, we set up the operating shelter, transceivers and antennas, and any overnight sleeping facilities.

The Salvation Army (SA) group provided operating shelters, a power generator and refreshments. Various club members will provide the necessary antennas, transceivers, 12v batteries and the laptop computers which will be used for logging purposes.

Club members and others were able to participate. We form teams of two each. One person would operate the radio and other person would log. After a period time roles were reversed so everyone had a chance at logging and talking. There were mentors available to help operate the radio and to log the contacts it for those that did not know. A control operator was present to keep everything above board so there was no worry about operating out of bounds.

See you on Field Day 2009! June 27th and 28th.
